The purpose of the IMA is to promote the use of Advanced Process Control (APC) for semiconductor manufacturing  by helping to create cooperative solutions among the technology providers and by lowering the barriers for implementation of the solutions.  The IMA is focusing its attention on the following tasks.

• Fostering better communication among the end users, the suppliers of sensors and software, and the fabrication tool manufacturers in order to identify the important problems and facilitate cooperation in their solution.
• Finding and publishing on the IMA web site success stories on APC implementations. 
• Developing and using Cost of Ownership models for manufacturing steps incorporating APC.
• Sponsoring a study on a "Business Model" for the delivery of APC technology.
• Participating in the definition and implementation of SEMI for integrated measurement sensors and their interfaces.
